A Biblical Reflection for Lent that is Coming!
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away." And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life.”
We are living in a time of many pains and sorrows caused by things
like, death, cancer, overdose, accidents, gun shots, bullying, war,
hunger, domestic violence, abuse, racism, abandonment, etc…
I have experienced some of these pains and sorrows myself, and
the question in my heart has been always one, “Why?!”
My brother was such a wonderful person, a great husband, father,
grandfather and brother, but cancer struck him fast and now he is gone.
When my son was overusing pot and drinking, there was nothing I
could do but pray. But the question was there, “Why?!”
As a chaplain and as a friend, I have been asked this one question a
“zillion” times, that I couldn’t answer, “WHY?”
A couple was leaving a patient’s room in the hospital when I was
passing by and just looked at them. The lady, whom I’ve never seen
before, came straight to me, hugged me, and crying, she asked me,
Though our souls thirst for answers in our quest for relief, in this
passage we are promised to receive the relief as a gift of “water from the
spring of the water of life.”
Prayer: Dear Lord, please quench the thirst of my soul right now,
and bring me a token of your relief, so that by faith, I can begin to taste
the “no tears-no death” experience of Easter already. Amen!
